The father of cricketer Yash Dayal, Chandarpal Dayal, skipped his daily morning newspaper on Monday out of fear of seeing his son’s tearful images from the previous night.
Yash had a difficult IPL match and was seen crying on television. Chandarpal, who was also a cricketer, understood the feeling of disappointment and decided to offer his support to his son.
Yash Dayal had an unexpected experience when he faced his ‘Chetan Sharma moment’ early in his career. During a match against Rinku Singh, also from Uttar Pradesh, Yash was hit for five consecutive sixes, leaving him devastated.
He returned to his hometown of Allahabad where his mother, Radha Dayal, was inconsolable and stopped eating due to the distressing incident. Yash’s father, Chandrapal Dayal, who had played in the Vizzy Trophy for North Zone Universities in the past, recounted the nightmare experience in an interview with PTI.
Yash’s younger brother’s dietary needs were taken care of by his nutritionist sister, Shuchi, who also comforted their mother during this difficult time. Despite the challenges, Chandrapal remained strong, as fathers often have to be.
He called Yash to offer some words of encouragement and remind him that even big players like Malinga and Stuart Broad have gone through similar situations.
He also shared his own experience of being hit for three consecutive sixes in a semi-final game. Chandarpal believes that Yash will bounce back from this setback and do a wonderful job in his future matches. He is now packing his bags to be with his son and ensure that he doesn’t lose his confidence.
