In the viral video, Tripta Tyagi can be seen instructing students to take turns slapping the Muslim student, who was visibly distressed and tearful. The distressing footage has evoked strong reactions across party lines, with political leaders condemning the incident as a hate crime. Rahul Gandhi, prominent political figure, expressed his dismay on social media. He stated that, “Sowing the poison of discrimination in the minds of innocent children, turning a holy place like a school into a marketplace of hatred – there is nothing worse a teacher can do for the country.”

Teacher’s Justification

The teacher’s justification for her actions, citing the boy’s failure to complete his homework, has been met with skepticism and anger.

Denying any communal intent, Tripta Tyagi stated, “I am handicapped, so I made some students slap him so that he would start doing his homework.” She claimed that her intention was not to harm the student but to address parental pressure and ensure the completion of assignments.

While Tyagi defended her actions as a “minor issue,” District Magistrate Aravind Mallappa Bangari confirmed that a case had been registered against the teacher. The child welfare committee also intervened, counseling the child and his parents. The incident has led to the decision by the boy’s father to withdraw his son from the school.

Priyank Kanoongo, Chairperson of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, urged the public to refrain from sharing the video to protect the identity of the victimized student. Additionally, the child rights body called for punitive action against the teacher.

The incident has sparked broader discussions about the responsibility of educators and the impact of such incidents on communal harmony. Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav demanded the immediate removal of the teacher and labelled her a “blot on society.” Asaduddin Owaisi, the AIMIM chief, called for strict action against Tyagi and characterized the incident as a reflection of larger issues.

Along with the role of educators in shaping the values and perspectives of the next generation. Legal proceedings unfold and public discourse continues.
