Election Commission Announces Rajya Sabha Poll Schedule
The Election Commission on Thursday announced the schedule for biennial Rajya Sabha elections across ten states. The elections will cover 24 seats, including four important seats from Northeast India.

Apart from the northeastern states, the Rajya Sabha elections will also cover several other states across the country.
The Commission announced elections for four seats each in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Karnataka. Additionally, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh will elect three members each, while Jharkhand will vote for two Rajya Sabha seats.
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda, Union Minister George Kurian and Ravneet Singh are among the members completing their terms next month.
EC Also Announces Bypolls
The Election Commission has also scheduled Rajya Sabha bypolls for one seat each in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. These seats became vacant after the concerned members secured election to their respective State Assemblies.
According to officials, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar vacated her Rajya Sabha seat after entering the State Assembly. Similarly, AIADMK MP C. V. Shanmugam also vacated his seat after his recent Assembly election victory.
The Commission will conduct these bypolls on June 18 along with the biennial elections.
