Massive Protest Rally Held in Kangpokpi

Hundreds of Kuki-Zo men and women gathered in Kangpokpi to protest against allegations made against Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen.

The rally started from Nute Kailhang in downtown Kangpokpi and proceeded through National Highway-2 toward uptown Kangpokpi. Protesters carried banners and raised slogans in support of the Deputy Chief Minister and the BJP-led government in Manipur.

Demonstrators shouted slogans such as “Stop False Allegations Against Pi Nemcha Kipgen” and “Defaming the Deputy CM is Defaming BJP Leadership.” Additionally, participants accused certain organisations of attempting to create instability in the state through misinformation campaigns.

Protesters Accuse Organisations of Political Motives

During the rally, protesters alleged that the accusations levelled against Nemcha Kipgen formed part of a larger political conspiracy aimed at destabilising the present government in Manipur.

The demonstrators specifically criticised the Foothills Naga Coordination Committee and the Manipur Naga Youth Organisation. According to the protesters, these groups acted as “mouthpieces of radical anti-peace elements” attempting to disrupt reconciliation efforts in the state.

Furthermore, speakers appealed to the Government of India, the Manipur Government, and BJP central leadership to take strict action against organisations allegedly spreading communal hatred and division.

Protesters Defend Nemcha Kipgen’s Public Record

On the sidelines of the rally, a woman protester identified as Chiching strongly defended Deputy CM Nemcha Kipgen.

She questioned the credibility of the allegations and argued that the Deputy Chief Minister had earned public respect through years of political service and community work.

The protester also referred to Kipgen’s recognition as a “COVID-19 Warrior” during the pandemic. According to her, the accusations ignored the Deputy Chief Minister’s contributions toward public welfare and tribal representation.

Moreover, she stated that if doubts existed regarding financial matters, authorities could seek clarification directly from the concerned departments instead of spreading allegations publicly.

Protesters Highlight Peace-Building Efforts

Speakers at the rally claimed that Nemcha Kipgen joined the current government after the lifting of President’s Rule despite political opposition within her own constituency.

According to the protesters, she took the decision to support the BJP’s vision of restoring peace, development, and communal harmony in violence-affected Manipur.

The speakers further alleged that anti-peace forces had targeted leaders involved in reconciliation initiatives. They argued that those attempting to restore normalcy in Manipur often face political attacks and public vilification.

Additionally, protesters referred to the killing of three Church leaders reportedly engaged in peace-building and inter-community dialogue efforts. Rally speakers described those incidents as attacks on reconciliation attempts within the state.

Concerns Over Ethnic Tension in Manipur

The rally also reflected growing concerns over communal tension and ethnic distrust in Manipur. Protesters warned that instability would continue if organisations allegedly promoting hostility between communities remained active.

Therefore, demonstrators demanded immediate intervention from the Central Government to identify groups allegedly working to weaken peace initiatives in the state.

Several speakers claimed that the current pattern of targeting leaders involved in reconciliation efforts had become alarming. They argued that political and communal tensions in Manipur required urgent and balanced intervention from authorities.

BJP Leadership Urged to Intervene

The protesters called on BJP central leadership to take decisive steps to prevent further political instability in Manipur.

According to rally organisers, forces opposed to peace and communal harmony were attempting to derail ongoing reconciliation efforts through proxy organisations and public campaigns.

The demonstrators asserted that restoring peace in Manipur required strong action against individuals or organisations allegedly spreading hostility, misinformation, and division among communities.

Importance of Manipur in Northeast India

Manipur remains one of the most politically sensitive states in Northeast India due to its complex ethnic composition and ongoing communal tensions.

As a result, political developments, protest rallies, and peace-building initiatives in the state often attract national attention. Stability in Manipur is considered important for maintaining security, development, and social harmony across the Northeast region.
