Police Foil Drug Smuggling Attempt at Interstate Border

Arunachal Pradesh Police achieved another success in their ongoing campaign against drug trafficking after intercepting a suspected narcotics consignment at the Banderdewa interstate check gate.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, Banderdewa Police launched a special operation to prevent narcotics from entering the state from neighbouring Assam. As a result, officers successfully intercepted a scooter and recovered suspected heroin during the search.

Intelligence-Based Operation Leads to Arrest

Police received information that drug traffickers were attempting to transport narcotics from Assam into Arunachal Pradesh. Consequently, a team of officers laid a trap at the interstate check post to monitor suspicious movements.

Inspector Kipa Hamak led the operation with support from SI Buddhiman Pegu, ASI Anil Rajbhar, ASI Gyamar Tapin, HC Tade Bomdom, and CRPF personnel. Furthermore, ASP Rishi Longdo, SDPO Naharlagun, supervised the operation.

Heroin Found Hidden Inside Helmet

During routine checking, police stopped a TVS N-Torq scooter bearing registration number AR-01S-1350 and conducted a detailed search.

The officers identified the rider as Godak Rajesh, a 29-year-old resident of Raga in Kamle district. Upon searching him, police discovered 19 vials containing suspected heroin hidden inside his helmet.

Additionally, the accused had wrapped the vials in a black polythene bag to avoid detection. The seized contraband, including the vials, weighed 24.44 grams.

Case Registered Under NDPS Act

Following the seizure, police registered a case at Banderdewa Police Station under Section 21(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Moreover, investigators have started examining the accused and collecting evidence to uncover the source of the drugs. Authorities are also trying to identify other individuals who may be connected to the smuggling network.

Police Reaffirm Commitment Against Narcotics

Speaking on the operation, Dr. Nyelam Nega, Superintendent of Police (SP), ICR Naharlagun, said that combating narcotics remains one of the top priorities of the police department.

He emphasized that law enforcement agencies will continue taking strict action against drug traffickers and peddlers. Furthermore, he reaffirmed the department’s commitment to building a drug-free society across the capital region.

Growing Focus on Border Surveillance

The successful seizure highlights the importance of intelligence-based policing and interstate border monitoring. Since Arunachal Pradesh shares key transport routes with neighbouring states, authorities regularly conduct checks to prevent the movement of illegal substances.

As a result, police have intensified surveillance at strategic checkpoints to disrupt drug trafficking networks operating in the region.
