The North Eastern Council (NEC) has completed three development projects worth ₹11.55 crore in Assam’s Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts. The projects aim to improve service delivery and support rural development in the region. The NEC funded the initiatives at Lumbajong Development Block, Sarmen Hanse village and Chinthong Block. Meanwhile, the projects formed part of 14 major development works that the council completed or closed across Northeast India in September. Together, these projects carried a total value of ₹45.48 crore.

Three NEC Projects Completed in Assam
The first project focused on key services at Lumbajong Development Block in Karbi Anglong. The NEC approved ₹4.97 crore for the initiative.
Similarly, the council supported another project at Sarmen Hanse village under Lumbajong Development Block. The project received ₹1.97 crore and focused on local development needs.
Furthermore, the NEC supported a third project at Chinthong Block in West Karbi Anglong. The project received approval for ₹4.61 crore.
Together, the three projects account for ₹11.55 crore in NEC support. They also reflect the council’s efforts to strengthen basic services and rural development across Assam’s hill districts.
Assam Receives Fresh NEC Funding
Apart from the completed projects, Assam received ₹4.42 crore in fresh NEC funding during September.
The new allocation will support student hostels at Bineswar Brahma Engineering College in Kokrajhar. It will also support initiatives connected with the Singpho community in Tinsukia.
As a result, the latest funding will support both educational infrastructure and community-focused development in Assam.
NEC Releases ₹42.63 Crore Across Northeast
Meanwhile, the NEC released ₹42.63 crore for projects across Northeast India during September.
The northeastern states received ₹35.21 crore from the total amount. In addition, regional institutions and agencies received ₹7.42 crore for capacity building, infrastructure and technology-related programmes.
Nagaland received the highest state allocation of ₹11.92 crore. The funding includes cluster-based coffee value chain development and a cultural activity complex at Pfutseromi village for the Chakhesang community.
Mizoram received ₹6.29 crore for several projects. These include an auditorium at Bethel Veng in Champhai, cultural tourism infrastructure at Vangchhia and Mizo ginger cultivation.
The state will also use the funding for IT-based mineral mapping and community infrastructure in Siaha district.
Funding Supports Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh
Sikkim received ₹4.17 crore for town CCTV surveillance and a multi-purpose hall at Government Degree College, Rhenock.
Similarly, Arunachal Pradesh received ₹3.40 crore for several development initiatives. These include a nursing hostel at District Hospital, Yingkiong, the Acheso tourism complex in Dibang Valley and the Ziro Signature View Point.
Tripura and Manipur also received instalments for ongoing projects. These projects include a model haat for tribal youth, Khumulwng Eco-Park upgrades, medicinal plant documentation and a museum-cum-library.
The funding also supports river debris collection units in the two states.
Regional Agencies Receive Development Support
The NEC also provided funding to several regional agencies during September.
The North Eastern Council Bamboo Development Centre received ₹2.88 crore for bamboo artisan clusters. Meanwhile, the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation received ₹2.35 crore for handloom skill development.
Additionally, NECTAR received ₹1.24 crore to establish STEM laboratories in remote schools.
These initiatives aim to strengthen traditional industries, improve skills and expand access to modern education in remote parts of the Northeast.
Other Major Projects Completed
The NEC also completed several other major projects across the region during September.
These included a ₹9.28-crore cultural complex of Seng Khasi Ri Raid Laban in Shillong and a ₹9.17-crore Music and Youth Activity Centre in Kohima.
A ₹4.27-crore girls’ hostel at JN College in Pasighat also featured among the completed projects. In addition, the NEC supported a ₹4.53-crore scheme for the Limboo community in Sikkim.
The council also closed projects involving seven bamboo-processing prototype processors worth ₹2.10 crore. Another major initiative involved an ₹11.08-crore IT Education Programme covering 150 schools in Mizoram.
Furthermore, the completed initiatives included AVGC and IT-ITES training, artificial intelligence and emerging technology programmes, NSSS 2026 and the She-Friendly Programme covering 20 institutions in Shillong.
