There has been a recent court order in Surat regarding Mr. Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha membership, and that the Congress party plans to appeal the decision. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister has stated that legal experts will be studying the verdict.

It is common for political parties to appeal such decisions in court, and legal experts can study the verdict to determine if there are grounds for an appeal. Ultimately, the decision on Mr. Gandhi’s membership will be up to the courts to decide.

Rahul Gandhi, the former head of the Congress Party, is found guilty of criminal defamation on Thursday and given a two-year prison sentence for his remark that “all thieves have the Modi surname.”

When the verdict was decided, Rahul Gandhi was present in the courtroom.  The punishment was postponed by the court for 30 days so that he may appeal to a higher court. He is free to leave on a ₹10,000 bond, according to the court.

The case was filed about remarks allegedly made by Mr. Gandhi during campaigning for the 2019 parliamentary elections in India. According to Mr. Modi’s complaint, Mr. Gandhi defamed the entire Modi community with his statement, “How come all the thieves have Modi as the common surname?” during a rally in Karnataka.
