In a heartwarming and inspiring story, an Uber driver in New Jersey, USA, donated a kidney to a stranger he had just met during a ride. The recipient, Bill Sumiel, had been suffering from kidney failure for years due to diabetes and was on the transplant list for three and a half years. Sumiel was on his way to a dialysis center when he struck up a conversation with his driver, Tim Letts, a former US Army veteran.

The heartwarming story was shared by the Good News Movement on Instagram, with Sumiel now rehabilitating at the University of Delaware’s Renal Rehab center, a year after the surgery. Letts, who now lives in Germany, still stays in touch with Sumiel, with the latter referring to him as his “forever friend who saved his life”.

A photo of the two in the hospital was posted on Sumiel’s Facebook account, with many people expressing their admiration for Letts’ selfless act of kindness.

Sumiel’s story is a reminder of the good that can be found in people, even in the most unexpected circumstances. Letts’ generosity has not only given Sumiel a second chance at life but also serves as an example of how a small act of kindness can make a world of difference. The hope is that their story will inspire others to consider organ donation and acts of kindness in their own lives.
