Mumbai Police have booked two teachers of a Kandivali playschool for allegedly assaulting and ill-treating children under their care. The parents of the children submitted a complaint to the police after viewing CCTV footage from the classroom.

The footage showed the accused teachers pinching the children’s cheeks, repeatedly slapping them, hitting them on the head with books, throwing them on the floor, and dragging them to the ground.

The police investigation found that the teachers had assaulted the children over three months between January 1 and March 27, 2023. They are also investigating if the teachers had mistreated the children before that period.

A father of a two-year-old boy noticed a behavioral change in his son, who had become aggressive and started hitting people at home. Upon enquiring with other parents, he found that their children had also become aggressive after attending playschool.

The complainant’s statement to the police described the teachers’ abuse of the children, which included manhandling them, pinching their cheeks, hitting their heads with books, dragging them on the floor, and throwing them on the floor.
