The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against a freelance journalist for allegedly spying on the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the army. The journalist, Vivek Raghuvanshi, is accused of sharing sensitive information with foreign intelligence agencies.

In response to the FIR, the CBI conducted searches at 12 locations in Jaipur and the National Capital Region (NCR) associated with Raghuvanshi and his associates. During the searches, officials discovered several sensitive documents, which are now under review.

The CBI has initiated a thorough investigation into Raghuvanshi’s connections both in India and abroad. It is alleged that he obtained classified information on DRDO projects, future procurement plans of the Indian armed forces, and details of India’s strategic and diplomatic discussions with friendly nations. The CBI believes that the disclosure of this information could have jeopardized national security and harmed India’s bilateral relations.

The Official Secrets Act of 1923, which applies to both Indian citizens and non-citizens on Indian soil, serves as the legal framework to protect state secrets and classified information. Violations of this act, including espionage and unauthorized disclosure of official secrets, are considered illegal and subject to prosecution by the government.
