The Indian Navy achieved a significant milestone as the MH-60R multirole helicopters landed for the first time on the indigenous destroyer INS Kolkata. This development greatly enhances the navy’s anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capability.

The MH-60R helicopter is renowned for its versatility in ASW, surveillance, anti-shipping, and search and rescue operations. Integrating these helicopters with Indian Navy warships strengthens their ability to counter underwater threats, monitor maritime activities, and conduct surveillance operations.

India is procuring 24 MH-60R helicopters from the United States under a foreign military sales agreement, with the helicopters being equipped with India-specific equipment and weapons.

The helicopters, manufactured by Lockheed Martin, have demonstrated high performance and readiness levels, making them unparalleled in maritime operations. The advanced mission system provides a comprehensive situational picture of the ocean’s surface and subsea domain, enabling efficient tracking, targeting, and engagement of ships or submarines.

The MH-60R helicopter is a versatile platform known for its exceptional capabilities in anti-submarine warfare (ASW), surveillance, anti-shipping, and search and rescue operations. Its integration with Indian Navy warships significantly enhances the navy’s capacity to combat underwater threats, monitor maritime activity, and conduct surveillance operations.
