The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Jharkhand Police have successfully carried out a joint operation resulting in the arrest of Dinesh Gope, the leader of the banned extremist group People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI). Gope, who had a reward of Rs 30,00,000 on his head, with Rs 25,00,000 declared by Jharkhand Police and Rs 5,00,000 declared by the NIA, was apprehended in Nepal. Following his arrest, Gope will be brought to Delhi and subsequently taken to Ranchi for further legal proceedings.

Before this, Jharkhand Police had already arrested two PLFI Naxals in February in the Latehar district. During the arrest, pamphlets of the extremist organization were also recovered. The individuals arrested were identified as Pratul Kumar Kachhap and Kardeep Oraon. Acting on secret information about a potential threat and extortion activity by these individuals near the Bendi railway station, the police formed a team led by station in-charge Chandrashekhar Chaudhary.

Upon reaching the upgraded Middle School in Bendi (Ledhpa), the police team discovered the extremists extorting money from contractors over the phone. Both individuals were found to have a criminal background. A 7.65 mm pistol, six bullets, three mobile phones, and a PLFI pamphlet were seized from the arrested militants. The police have filed a case against them under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act.
