Indian weightlifters Ajith Narayana and Achinta Sheuli made their country proud by finishing first and second respectively in Group B of the men’s 73kg event at the Asian Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Monday.
Competing in his first senior international tournament, Ajith Narayana lifted a total of 307kg (139kg+168kg), while Achinta Sheuli could only manage 305kg (140kg+165kg). Both lifters were assigned to Group B based on their entry weights. The lifters who registered the highest entry weight were placed in Group A, followed by B and so on.
Ajith Narayana, who hails from Kerala, has been making steady progress in the weightlifting circuit. He had won the gold medal in the 73kg category at the 2019 Commonwealth Championships held in Samoa. His performance at the Asian Championships shows that he is a rising star in Indian weightlifting.
Achinta Sheuli, on the other hand, has been a consistent performer for India in weightlifting. He had won the gold medal in the men’s 73kg category at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships
