The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has questioned Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee for more than six hours as part of its investigation into the school jobs scam. Banerjee appeared before the CBI officers at Nizam Palace and prior to that, he wrote a letter to the agency, stating his intention to move the Supreme Court in order to challenge the High Court’s order that allows the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to interrogate him.
During the interrogation, CBI officers reportedly inquired about the allegations made by an accused in the school jobs scam, Kuntal Ghosh, who claimed that he was being coerced into implicating Banerjee. According to sources, the officers sought clarification from Banerjee regarding these allegations.
The school jobs scam came to light when irregularities were uncovered in the recruitment process for various teaching positions in the state. Kuntal Ghosh, one of the accused in the case, had allegedly made statements implicating Abhishek Banerjee. The CBI is conducting a thorough investigation into the matter to uncover the truth and determine the extent of involvement of individuals.
In his letter to the CBI, Banerjee expressed his disagreement with the High Court’s decision to allow the investigative agencies to question him. He stated his intention to challenge this order in the Supreme Court, seeking relief from what he believes is an unjust investigation.
The TMC leader has consistently maintained his innocence in the school jobs scam and has categorically denied any involvement. He has also asserted that the allegations against him are politically motivated and aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
The questioning of Abhishek Banerjee by the CBI marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation. Banerjee, being a prominent leader of the TMC and the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, holds considerable influence within the party. His involvement in the case has drawn widespread attention and political ramifications, further intensifying the already charged atmosphere in the state’s political landscape.
As the CBI continues its probe, it is expected to explore all leads and gather evidence to ascertain the veracity of the allegations made against Abhishek Banerjee. Simultaneously, Banerjee’s decision to approach the Supreme Court adds a legal dimension to the case, which will be closely watched by both the political fraternity and the public at large.
The outcome of Abhishek Banerjee’s Supreme Court petition and the CBI investigation will determine the course of events in this high-profile case. Meanwhile, the political climate in West Bengal remains tense, with parties closely monitoring the developments and engaging in a war of words over the issue.
