Dhubri district in Assam has taken a bold step to bridge the education gap for disadvantaged children. A new free learning center has been launched to provide academic support, mentoring, and a safe space for students struggling with limited resources. The initiative, inaugurated on September 8, 2025, has already gained praise from educators, parents, and community leaders.

The learning center aims to boost academic performance among students who often fall behind due to poverty, lack of guidance, or limited access to quality education. Located in a central part of Dhubri town, the center is expected to become a hub of learning and empowerment for children from marginalized families.

An Initiative for Equal Education

Education officials in Dhubri stated that this center is part of a broader mission to ensure that every child has access to quality learning opportunities regardless of their socio-economic background. The facility offers after-school classes, academic counseling, and extracurricular activities.

The center is equipped with basic infrastructure such as classrooms, reading corners, and digital tools to help students develop critical skills. Teachers and volunteers will provide free academic assistance in core subjects like mathematics, science, and English.

“This is not just a place for studying. It is a platform to nurture confidence and inspire children to dream bigger,” said an education department official at the inauguration.

Addressing Assam’s Education Challenges

Dhubri’s initiative comes at a crucial time when Assam continues to face challenges in its education sector. Reports from the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE+) highlight that many students in rural and economically weaker sections struggle to keep up with the state syllabus.

Poverty, lack of transportation, and digital divides have widened the gap in learning outcomes. By offering free resources, mentorship, and guided support, the center hopes to reduce dropout rates and encourage more children to pursue higher education.

Community Participation is Key

The success of the new learning center depends largely on community involvement. Several local organizations have pledged their support. Volunteers, including retired teachers, students, and social workers, are working to make this initiative a sustainable one.

Parents from low-income families expressed gratitude for this step. “We cannot afford private tuitions. This center gives hope that our children can do well in studies,” said a mother of two from Dhubri.

The center also plans to run awareness campaigns for parents to emphasize the importance of consistent schooling and holistic development.

Building a Model for Other Districts

Officials say Dhubri’s model could be replicated across Assam. The government and local NGOs are monitoring its progress closely. If successful, similar centers may be established in rural and flood-affected areas where education is often disrupted.

The center is also collaborating with schools to identify students who need additional help. By coordinating efforts between teachers, parents, and volunteers, this project aims to create a long-term impact.

Digital Learning Opportunities

In addition to traditional teaching, the center has introduced digital learning tools. Tablets, projectors, and online educational content will be used to make lessons engaging. Although, this move aligns with the Digital India initiative. Furthermore, ensuring that even children from disadvantaged backgrounds gain basic digital literacy.

Access to the internet and educational apps will allow students to stay updated with modern learning methods. Moreover, experts believe that this step is vital to prepare children for future opportunities in higher education and careers.

A Call for Broader Support

The Dhubri learning center reflects Assam’s growing emphasis on inclusive education. Social activists are urging businesses and philanthropists to step forward and contribute resources or expertise to such initiatives.

Local leaders are calling on the education department to provide regular funding and support to ensure the sustainability of the project. “This center shows that when the community and government come together, real change is possible,” said a district official.

A Step Towards Educational Equity

As Assam continues to work on improving its literacy rate, the Dhubri learning center is a promising sign of progress. It symbolizes hope for children who have long been left behind due to socio-economic barriers.

Residents believe this initiative will inspire more districts to invest in similar educational projects. For now, the focus remains on helping these students not just pass exams but thrive academically and emotionally.
