Harry Edward Styles was born on February 1, 1994, in Redditch, Worcestershire, England. He is the son of Anne Twist and Desmond Styles. Styles has one older sister, Gemma. He was raised in Holmes Chapel, Cheshire.
Styles was always interested in music and performance. He began singing at a young age and participated in school plays. He attended Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School, where he was a popular student.
After completing his studies, Styles worked various jobs, including a bakery and a customer service position. In 2010, he decided to pursue his music career full-time.
In 2010, Styles auditioned for the British television talent show The X Factor. He was eliminated from the solo competition but was put together with four other contestants to form a boy band. The band was named One Direction.
One Direction quickly became a global sensation. The group released five studio albums, all of which topped the charts in many countries. They also won numerous awards, including six Brit Awards and three American Music Awards.
One Direction went on an indefinite hiatus in 2016.
In 2017, Styles signed a solo recording contract with Columbia Records. His debut self-titled album was released in 2017 and was met with critical acclaim. The album debuted at number one in several countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom. It also spawned the hit singles “Sign of the Times” and “Watermelon Sugar.”
Styles’ second album, Fine Line, was released in 2019 and was even more successful than his debut. The album debuted at number one in over 15 countries and spawned the hit singles “Adore You” and “Lights Up.”
Styles has won numerous awards for his solo work, including two Grammy Awards and a Brit Award. He has also been nominated for four Brit Awards and three American Music Awards.
In 2017, Styles made his acting debut in the war film Dunkirk. He played a British soldier who is evacuated from Dunkirk during World War II. The film was directed by Christopher Nolan and received critical acclaim.
Styles has since starred in the films Don’t Worry Darling (2022) and My Policeman (2022).
Styles is known for his flamboyant fashion sense and his advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights. He has been linked to several celebrities, including Taylor Swift, Kendall Jenner, and Camille Rowe.
