21 Kg Cannabis Seized in Teliamura: Two Youths from Bihar Nabbed for Drug Smuggling

Teliamura Police arrested two youths from Bhagalpur, Bihar, and seized 21 kilograms of dry cannabis from their possession. The estimated street value of the contraband is over ₹1 lakh, marking one of the largest drug busts in the area this year.

The accused have been identified as Ravi Kumar and Om Nath Yadav. Acting on routine vehicle checking near the Trisha Bari area, police personnel from Teliamura Police Station flagged down the suspects. Upon spotting the police, the duo attempted to flee but were apprehended after a brief chase.

According to Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jayanta Dey, the suspects were carrying 21 packets of cannabis hidden in their shoulder bags. The search, seizure, and arrest were carried out in the presence of a Designated Civil Magistrate (DCM), adhering to all legal procedures under the NDPS Act (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act).

“Legal proceedings have been initiated, and further investigation is ongoing to determine the broader network involved,” said OC Jayanta Dey.

Preliminary interrogation suggests that the accused intended to use rail transport from Teliamura to smuggle the cannabis to other states. Authorities suspect that Tripura is increasingly being used as a transit corridor by drug traffickers due to its proximity to inter-state rail and road links.

This latest arrest is part of an intensified crackdown by Tripura Police on narcotics smuggling. Over the past few months, several similar seizures have taken place in the region, indicating a rising trend of cannabis transportation through North Eastern states.

Law enforcement agencies have stepped up surveillance at entry and exit points, particularly in regions like Teliamura that connect key national routes. Police have also appealed to the public to report any suspicious activity related to drug trafficking in the area.
