Union Home Minister Amit Shah has declared that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will secure a third consecutive term in Assam during the 2026 Assembly elections. Addressing a public gathering in Guwahati, Shah expressed confidence that the people of Assam will once again place their trust in the BJP because of its track record of development, peace, and security in the state. His remarks come as part of the party’s broader strategy to consolidate its stronghold in the Northeast.

Shah stated that the BJP had fulfilled major promises made to the people in its earlier terms. He cited the resolution of long-standing border disputes with neighboring states, the reduction of insurgency, and the push for rapid economic growth in Assam. According to him, these achievements demonstrate why the BJP is confident about winning a third term in the 2026 polls.

The Union Home Minister also highlighted the ongoing infrastructure projects, including new highways, bridges, and educational institutions across Assam. He said these initiatives show the party’s vision for a modern and developed state.

Development and peace as BJP’s key agenda

During his address, Amit Shah emphasized that peace and development remain the cornerstones of the BJP’s governance model in Assam. He noted that the state had witnessed decades of unrest and insurgency, but the last few years brought stability under BJP leadership.

Shah credited the government’s approach to dialogue with armed groups and strict law enforcement for improving law and order. He also underlined that the youth of Assam now aspire to jobs, business opportunities, and education instead of being drawn into violent movements. This shift, he argued, is one of the strongest achievements of BJP governance in the Northeast.

Preparing for 2026 Assembly elections

With the 2026 Assembly elections still more than a year away, Shah’s statement signals an early start to BJP’s campaign. By assuring people of a third term, the party aims to maintain momentum and prevent opposition groups from gaining ground.

The BJP already enjoys a strong organizational presence in Assam. Its allies in the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) provide additional support, strengthening its chances of retaining power. Shah also praised the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, calling him a driving force behind Assam’s transformation.

Amit Shah vows third term in Assam, takes on opposition

Shah did not shy away from criticizing opposition parties, particularly the Congress. He accused them of neglecting Assam’s development for decades and allowing corruption and instability to dominate governance. According to him, the Congress had little vision for the Northeast, whereas the BJP treats the region as a priority.

He also accused opposition leaders of spreading misinformation and playing divisive politics. In contrast, Shah said the BJP promotes unity and integration, ensuring that Assam becomes a key contributor to India’s growth story.

Social welfare schemes gain spotlight

Amit Shah reminded the audience about the central and state welfare schemes that benefited lakhs of people in Assam. Initiatives like Ayushman Bharat, PM Awas Yojana, and the Jal Jeevan Mission have directly impacted households across the state. He said these schemes prove that the BJP not only promises development but also delivers it.

He further stressed that women’s empowerment programs, agricultural subsidies, and skill development initiatives helped grassroots communities. These, he claimed, ensure that BJP’s governance model connects with both rural and urban voters alike.

Focus on cultural identity and heritage

Apart from economic and political achievements, Shah also spoke about Assam’s cultural pride. He highlighted efforts to preserve Assamese language, traditions, and festivals through government-supported programs. According to him, cultural preservation strengthens people’s bond with their identity while promoting unity.

He assured that the BJP respects the diversity of Assam and will continue to support local communities in safeguarding their heritage. By weaving cultural pride with development, the party seeks to create an inclusive narrative for the 2026 elections.

Amit Shah vows third term in Assam as vision for future

Looking ahead, Shah outlined the BJP’s vision for Assam’s future. He promised more investment in industries, IT parks, and educational hubs, alongside agricultural reforms to benefit farmers. He also mentioned the government’s continued push for better healthcare and housing.

Shah asserted that Assam will play a bigger role in India’s Act East Policy, serving as a gateway to Southeast Asia. He said improved connectivity and economic links would make Assam an economic powerhouse in the Northeast.

The road to 2026 elections

As the BJP gears up for the 2026 polls, Amit Shah’s bold statement has set the tone for political discourse in Assam. While the opposition is expected to challenge the BJP on issues like unemployment and rising prices, the ruling party is likely to focus on peace, development, and welfare as its main campaign planks.

Political analysts believe that Shah’s visit and his vow of a third term are aimed at energizing party workers and consolidating voter confidence. With Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership and BJP’s grassroots reach, the party appears well-positioned to face the elections. However, the coming months will reveal how effectively the opposition can mount a challenge.

Amit Shah’s declaration that the BJP will secure a third term in Assam reflects the party’s confidence and determination ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. By focusing on peace, development, cultural pride, and welfare schemes, the BJP seeks to strengthen its bond with the people. As political momentum builds, Assam is set to witness a charged campaign where Shah’s promise of continuity will remain at the center of debate.
