Full News Report

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, Assam Rifles, in coordination with Cachar Police, launched a targeted operation in Silchar and dismantled an interstate tout network involved in illegal cross-border movement.

The network allegedly facilitated the organised entry of foreign nationals from Bangladesh and Myanmar into India. Moreover, it used routes passing through Tripura and Mizoram to carry out these activities.

Officials stated that the group also arranged unauthorized exits from India. In addition, it helped individuals facing criminal cases, deportation orders, and visa violations to evade legal action. Therefore, authorities treated the case as a serious security concern.

During the operation, security forces arrested four individuals linked to the network. They identified the accused as Emeka (44), a Nigerian national, K Malsawmdawngi from Aizawl, Tinku Hussain Barbhuiya from Silchar, and Ramina Begum Barbhuiya from Silchar. Preliminary investigation indicates that the group actively managed systematic cross-border movements.

Meanwhile, in a separate series of operations, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles conducted joint missions under the Spear Corps, along with Manipur Police. These operations took place across several districts of Manipur between March 15 and 21.

The forces covered districts including Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Chandel, Kakching, Thoubal, and Tengnoupal. As a result, they arrested 13 cadres belonging to both hill- and valley-based insurgent groups. Furthermore, the teams recovered 57 weapons, explosives, and other war-like stores during the অভিযান.

Earlier on March 15, Assam Rifles apprehended five cadres near the Indo-Myanmar border in Tengnoupal district. These individuals had links with insurgent outfits such as People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak, Kangleipak Communist Party, and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup.

Overall, these coordinated actions highlight intensified efforts by security forces to curb illegal cross-border activities and insurgency in the Northeast region.
