Cash, Mobile Phone and Vehicle Also Seized

In addition to the narcotics, the security forces seized several items believed to be linked to drug trafficking. These included a mobile phone, Rs 25,500 in cash, and an auto-rickshaw allegedly used to transport the contraband.

Officials stated that the recovery of these items would help investigators trace the network behind the illegal trade. Moreover, the seizure highlights the role of coordinated intelligence in curbing narcotics smuggling in the region.

The apprehended individual, along with the seized heroin and other materials, was handed over to Cachar District Police. Further investigation is currently underway to identify possible links to larger drug trafficking syndicates operating in the area.

Assam Rifles Credit Intelligence Sharing for Success

Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) attributed the success of the operation to effective intelligence sharing and close coordination between Assam Rifles and district police authorities. He stated that such joint efforts are crucial in tackling the growing challenge of drug trafficking in the Northeast.

Furthermore, officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining strict vigilance along vulnerable routes. They also stressed that similar operations will continue in the coming days to ensure public safety.

Illegal Areca Nuts Worth Rs 1.80 Crore Seized in Mizoram

In a separate operation on January 26, Assam Rifles recovered a large consignment of illegal areca nuts in Mizoram. The seizure took place at Tlangnuam in Aizawl district. A total of 339 bags of areca nuts, valued at around Rs 1.80 crore, were recovered during the operation.

During the crackdown, three individuals were apprehended. Additionally, three vehicles allegedly used for transporting the illegal goods were seized. Subsequently, all seized items and suspects were handed over to the Custom Preventive Force for further legal action.

Officials noted that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb cross-border smuggling and illegal trade in the region. As a result, security agencies have intensified surveillance in key transit points.

Assam Rifles Mark 77th Republic Day Across Multiple Locations

Meanwhile, Assam Rifles personnel actively participated in the 77th Republic Day celebrations across several locations in the region. The celebrations were held at Srikona, Borobekra, Kadamtala, New Kaiphundai, Kaimai, and Nungba.

The events witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, and local residents. Cultural programmes and patriotic activities were organised to mark the occasion. Through such engagements, Assam Rifles aimed to strengthen ties with local communities.

Officials stated that community outreach remains an important aspect of their role. Alongside security duties, Assam Rifles continue to contribute to social and national events, reinforcing trust and cooperation with the public.
