FIR Lodged by Victim’s Father

The complaint was filed by Wanglembam Gunajit, Sonia’s father, at the Women’s Police Station in Imphal West district. In the FIR, he accused his son-in-law of physically assaulting his daughter following a heated argument. According to the complaint, the altercation took place after the couple attended a birthday party.

Reports indicate that the alleged incident occurred on February 17 at Gokulchandra’s residence in Langjing Achouba, Imphal West district. The actor, aged 51, reportedly lives there with his wife and children.

Medical Treatment and Trauma

The FIR further states that Sonia required medical attention following the incident. She was admitted twice this month to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), a state-run hospital in Imphal. Subsequently, she reportedly underwent psychiatric treatment due to trauma linked to the alleged assault.

At present, Sonia is staying at her father’s residence. Family members have expressed concern over her physical and mental well-being.

Legal Proceedings and Bail Application

Following standard legal procedures, the police submitted a report before the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class I on February 23 for further action. Meanwhile, anticipating arrest in connection with the case, Gokulchandra moved the Sessions Court of Imphal West seeking anticipatory bail through his counsel.

After hearing arguments from the petitioner’s lawyer and examining the application, the Sessions Judge granted interim pre-arrest bail to the actor. The court also directed the Women’s Police Station in Imphal West to submit an objection report by March 10.

Investigation Underway

Police officials have initiated an investigation into the allegations. Authorities are expected to record statements and collect relevant evidence as part of the inquiry. Further legal proceedings will depend on the findings and the court’s directions.

The case has drawn attention within Manipur’s film fraternity and the wider public. As the investigation progresses, law enforcement authorities have assured that due legal procedures will be followed to ensure a fair and transparent process.
