Police Launch Intelligence-Based Operation

Acting on credible intelligence, Guwahati Police launched a targeted operation in the Kharghuli area. As a result, officers intercepted the suspected smuggled gold before it could leave the city. According to police, the timely action prevented the illegal consignment from reaching its destination.

Gold Worth ₹54 Crore Recovered

Police seized approximately 38 kilograms of suspected smuggled gold with an estimated market value of ₹54 crore. In addition, officers recovered four mobile phones and ₹3,700 in cash from the accused. Investigators have taken all the recovered items into custody for further examination.

One Person Arrested

Police identified the accused as Akshay Bansure and arrested him during the operation. Following the arrest, investigators began questioning him to determine the origin and destination of the gold. Meanwhile, officials are trying to identify others who may have participated in the smuggling operation.

Probe into International Smuggling Links

Preliminary findings suggest that the accused may have connections with an international gold smuggling network. However, police have not confirmed the full extent of the alleged syndicate. At the same time, investigators are examining the recovered mobile phones and collecting additional evidence to trace the source of the gold and identify other suspects.

Investigation Continues

Police continue to question the accused and analyse the evidence collected during the operation. Furthermore, officials are verifying whether the case has interstate or international links. If new evidence emerges, authorities may make additional arrests in the coming days.
