Multiple landslides caused by heavy overnight rainfall have led to the temporary suspension of traffic movement on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway and the Mughal Road. The landslides occurred at various locations, including Mehar, Cafeteria Morh, Keela Morh, Sita Ram Passi, and Panthiyal in Ramban, severely impacting the only all-weather road that connects Kashmir with the rest of the country. Train services between Banihal and Qazigund stations have also been suspended for the day, further compounding the transportation woes in the region.

The torrential rainfall in the area resulted in a series of landslides, posing significant challenges for commuters and authorities alike. The affected stretches of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway have been temporarily closed off to prevent any untoward incidents. Efforts are underway to clear the debris and restore normal traffic flow, but the scale of the landslides and the ongoing rainfall have complicated the task.

The closure of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, which serves as a vital lifeline for the region, has disrupted the movement of goods and people. It has also hampered essential supplies to Kashmir, as the highway is the primary route for transportation of essential commodities. The authorities are working diligently to expedite the clearance operations and reopen the highway at the earliest.

Additionally, the Mughal Road, an alternate route connecting Poonch and Rajouri districts in Jammu with Shopian district in Kashmir, has also been affected by landslides. The closure of this road has further limited the available options for commuters, exacerbating the transportation crisis in the region. Efforts are being made to clear the landslides on the Mughal Road as well, but it may take some time before it can be safely reopened.

The suspension of train services between Banihal and Qazigund stations has added to the inconvenience faced by travelers. The railways have taken precautionary measures to ensure passenger safety and avoid any mishaps due to the unfavorable weather conditions. Train services will resume once the situation improves, and it is deemed safe to operate trains on the affected stretch.

The authorities, including the local administration and the Border Roads Organization (BRO), are coordinating their efforts to tackle the aftermath of the landslides and restore normalcy. Heavy machinery and personnel have been deployed to clear the debris and repair any damage caused to the road infrastructure. However, the continuous rainfall has slowed down the progress, making the task more challenging.

In the meantime, commuters and travelers are advised to exercise caution and stay updated with the latest information regarding the road closures and alternative routes. It is essential to prioritize safety and follow the instructions of the authorities during such adverse weather conditions. Travel plans should be reconsidered until the situation stabilizes, as the inclement weather may lead to further disruptions and potential risks.

The local administration, along with various agencies, is also working on long-term measures to mitigate the impact of natural disasters like landslides in the region. This includes implementing infrastructure improvements, such as strengthening slopes and constructing retaining walls, as well as developing early warning systems to alert residents and commuters about potential risks.

Heavy rainfall has triggered multiple landslides, resulting in the temporary suspension of traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway and the Mughal Road. The closures have disrupted transportation and essential supplies to the region. Efforts are underway to clear the debris and restore normal traffic flow, but the continuous rainfall presents challenges for the authorities. Commuters are advised to stay cautious, and long-term measures are being explored to mitigate the impact of such natural disasters in the future.
