After the setback of a failed bid to soft-land on the Moon nearly four years ago, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has taken corrective measures and is now gearing up for its Chandrayaan-3 mission. K Sivan, the former Chairman of ISRO, expressed confidence in the success of the upcoming lunar mission but acknowledged that it would be a challenging endeavor.

In an interview with PTI, Sivan emphasized the significance of the Chandrayaan-3 launch and the high expectations associated with the ambitious project in India. Reflecting on the previous mission, Chandrayaan-2, he acknowledged that the landing mission was not executed successfully. However, he assured that the ISRO team had meticulously planned the Chandrayaan-3 mission, incorporating all necessary corrective measures.

Speaking from the spaceport of Sriharikota, Sivan stated, “This time we are attempting (again). We have planned with all corrective measures. The launch happened today successfully. So that way the first phase is over successfully.” He conveyed his optimism regarding the mission’s progress after a successful launch.

The Chandrayaan-2 mission, launched in July 2019, aimed to conduct a soft landing on the lunar surface near the South Pole. Unfortunately, during the final moments of descent, communication with the lander was lost, resulting in the mission’s partial failure. Despite the setback, the orbiter component of Chandrayaan-2 continues to orbit the Moon, gathering valuable scientific data.

With the Chandrayaan-3 mission, ISRO seeks to rectify the previous mission’s shortcomings and achieve a successful soft landing on the Moon. While specific details about the mission timeline and objectives remain undisclosed, it is evident that ISRO has prioritized learning from past experiences and implementing necessary improvements.

The Indian space agency has consistently demonstrated its capabilities in space exploration and has garnered global recognition for its achievements. The successful launch of the Chandrayaan-3 mission indicates ISRO’s determination to overcome obstacles and continue pushing the boundaries of space exploration.

ISRO’s vision extends beyond lunar missions. The organization has various upcoming projects, including the ambitious Gaganyaan mission, which aims to send Indian astronauts to space. These initiatives reflect India’s growing prowess in space technology and its commitment to scientific advancement.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission represents a critical milestone for ISRO. The lessons learned from the previous attempt, along with the incorporation of corrective measures, are expected to enhance the chances of a successful soft landing this time. As India eagerly awaits the outcome of this endeavor, the nation’s aspirations and faith in ISRO’s capabilities remain unwavering.

The Indian Space Research Organisation is prepared to undertake the Chandrayaan-3 mission with renewed determination and a commitment to rectifying past failures. While challenges lie ahead, the successful launch marks a significant step forward. ISRO’s relentless pursuit of scientific exploration continues to inspire and captivate the nation, as the world watches with anticipation.
