PREPAK Cadre Held in Imphal East

On March 1, security personnel apprehended a 21-year-old alleged cadre of People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK). The team carried out the operation at Phaknung Awang Leikai under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East district.

Police identified the accused as Khundrakpam Anilkumar Singh, also known as Manganglakpa, a resident of Sawombung Thongkhong. Officials said he possessed a mobile phone at the time of arrest. Authorities suspect he played an active role in the outfit’s activities. Investigators have launched further questioning to determine his network and involvement.

KYKL Member Apprehended in Thoubal

In another operation on February 28, security forces arrested an alleged active member of Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) from Yairipok Lamkhai under Thoubal Police Station.

The arrested individual, Ibungomacha Laishram alias Rocky alias Ibomcha (43), hails from Gaili village in Peren district of Nagaland. However, he currently stayed at Singjamei Yumnam Leikai in Imphal West district. During the arrest, security personnel seized a mobile phone and a SIM card from his possession.

Officials believe the suspect maintained communication links for the outfit. Therefore, they are examining the seized devices to trace contacts and possible operational plans.

Firearm Seized in Imphal West Operation

On the same day, another team arrested a 29-year-old alleged cadre of PREPAK (Pro) from his residence at Wangoi Khaidem Leikai under Wangoi Police Station in Imphal West district.

Police identified the accused as Khaidem Narendra Singh alias Angou alias Maikeingakpa. During the search, security personnel recovered a 9 mm pistol with a magazine and four live rounds of ammunition. They also seized a mobile phone with a SIM card.

The recovery of the firearm marks a significant breakthrough. Authorities suspect that the weapon may have been intended for unlawful activities. As a result, forensic and ballistic examinations will follow.

Ongoing Counter-Insurgency Measures

Police sources confirmed that these arrests form part of ongoing counter-insurgency operations across Manipur. Security agencies have intensified surveillance and targeted operations to curb unlawful activities and disrupt communication networks of banned organisations.

In recent months, forces have stepped up intelligence-based actions in vulnerable districts. They aim to prevent extortion, arms movement, and recruitment drives carried out by insurgent groups.

Officials stated that coordinated efforts between district police and security units have strengthened law enforcement capabilities. Moreover, authorities continue to monitor sensitive areas to maintain public safety.

Further investigation remains underway in all three cases. Police are analysing digital evidence and questioning the accused to uncover wider links. Authorities have assured that they will continue strict action against banned outfits operating in the state.

The latest operations highlight the state’s continued focus on maintaining law and order and ensuring peace across Manipur.
