In response to the imminent arrival of Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’, authorities in Gujarat have taken swift action to ensure the safety of the population. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has evacuated approximately 100,000 people from vulnerable areas, implementing a range of precautionary measures to mitigate the potential impact of the cyclone.
Among the steps taken, fishing boats have been securely anchored, while large ships have been directed to the open seas to avoid the cyclone’s path. Furthermore, over 4,000 hoardings have been dismantled to prevent them from becoming potential hazards during the storm. Salt pan workers and pregnant women have been relocated to safer locations, prioritizing their well-being during this challenging time.
NDRF Director General Atul Karwal has stated that the organization is fully prepared for the cyclone’s arrival. In addition to the 33 teams designated for relief and rescue efforts in Gujarat and Maharashtra, an additional 15 teams have been put on alert in different regions of the country. These teams are prepared to be airlifted and provide reinforcement wherever needed.
The majority of the NDRF teams, totaling 18, have been stationed in Gujarat due to the predictions of the cyclone’s impact being most severe in the region. With strong winds and heavy rainfall expected, the authorities are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to protect the population and minimize potential damage to infrastructure.
The evacuation process has been meticulously organized, ensuring the safety of residents at every step. Gujarat’s administration has been working closely with the NDRF to coordinate rescue operations and provide assistance to those affected by the cyclone. The state government has set up temporary shelters equipped with essential supplies to accommodate evacuated individuals and families.
The meteorological department has been closely monitoring the cyclone’s trajectory and issuing regular updates to keep the public informed about the situation. As the cyclone approaches, the authorities have urged residents to stay indoors and follow the prescribed safety guidelines. Schools and colleges in the affected areas have been closed until further notice to prevent any risks to students and faculty.
The efforts of the NDRF and the state government have been widely appreciated by the public, as their swift response and proactive measures have instilled a sense of confidence among the affected communities. The focus now remains on ensuring the well-being and security of those who have been evacuated, as well as on post-cyclone rehabilitation and restoration efforts.
While the cyclone’s path and intensity remain unpredictable, the preparedness demonstrated by the authorities serves as a testament to their commitment to safeguarding lives and minimizing the impact of natural disasters. As the nation stands united in the face of this crisis, the hope is that the combined efforts of the NDRF, local authorities, and the resilience of the people will help overcome the challenges brought by Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ and aid in the swift recovery of affected areas.
