According to the minister, despite ongoing efforts by the state government and central schemes aimed at expanding electricity access, some villages still face challenges that prevent them from receiving reliable power supply. These villages are located in remote and difficult terrains where infrastructure development becomes complicated.
Challenges in Providing Electricity to Remote Villages
The government has identified several factors that contribute to the unelectrified and de-electrified villages in Mizoram. Geographic barriers, sparse population, and limited road connectivity often make it difficult to extend power transmission lines to certain locations.
In some cases, villages that previously had electricity connections became de-electrified due to damaged infrastructure, shifting settlements, or technical issues affecting power supply lines. Restoring electricity in such areas requires rebuilding or upgrading existing power networks.
Power Minister F. Rodingliana emphasized that the government continues to work on solutions to address these challenges and improve power connectivity for residents living in remote regions.
Government Efforts to Improve Rural Electrification
The Mizoram government has been implementing various projects to expand electricity access and strengthen power infrastructure. These initiatives include the installation of new transmission lines, upgrading substations, and exploring alternative energy solutions for difficult-to-reach areas.
Officials are also coordinating with central government programs designed to achieve universal electrification in rural India. These programs aim to ensure that every household receives reliable electricity for daily needs, economic activities, and community development.
Impact on Local Communities
Electricity plays a crucial role in improving the quality of life in rural areas. Reliable power supply helps communities access better education, healthcare, and communication services. It also supports small businesses and agricultural activities that depend on electricity.
The presence of 45 unelectrified or de-electrified villages in Mizoram highlights the importance of continuing infrastructure development in remote areas. Residents in these villages still rely on alternative energy sources such as generators, solar lamps, or traditional lighting methods.

Government Commitment to Universal Electrification
Power Minister F. Rodingliana assured the Assembly that the government remains committed to achieving full electrification across the state. Authorities will continue to identify solutions and allocate resources to bring electricity to the remaining villages.
As development projects progress, officials hope that the number of unelectrified villages in Mizoram will gradually decrease, ensuring that all communities benefit from reliable and sustainable power supply.
