In the wake of a tragic incident involving the rape and murder of an 18-year-old girl in a Mumbai hostel, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has called for increased security measures in women’s hostels across Maharashtra. An NCP delegation recently submitted a memorandum to the Director General of Police (DGP), Rajnish Seth, outlining their demands for women’s safety.
The incident, which unfolded in a hostel located in South Mumbai, involved a laundry man who also worked as a security guard. According to the police, the man gained access to the girl’s room on the fourth floor, where he raped and strangled her to death. Disturbingly, the assailant subsequently died by stepping in front of a local train.
The NCP delegation has emphasized the need for regular visits by female police officials to women’s hostels in order to ensure the implementation of adequate security measures. By having police personnel conduct routine inspections, the party believes that potential risks and vulnerabilities can be identified and addressed promptly. Addressing the media, a spokesperson for the NCP stated, “The recent incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of women residing in hostels.
