Assam is preparing for a historic weekend. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive for a high-profile two-day visit on January 17 and 18, 2026. This trip focuses on massive infrastructure gains and wildlife conservation. Furthermore, the visit highlights the central government’s commitment to the “Act East” policy. Projects scheduled for this visit will redefine travel and ecology in the Northeast.

Flagging Off the First Vande Bharat Sleeper

The highlight for rail passengers during the PM Modi Assam visit 2026 is the new Vande Bharat sleeper train. Unlike existing chair-car versions, this train serves long-distance overnight travel. On January 17, the Prime Minister will flag off the service between Howrah and Guwahati. Consequently, this offers a faster and more comfortable alternative to older trains.

This new service features 16 modern coaches. Specifically, it includes 11 three-tier AC and 4 two-tier AC coaches. Because it can reach high speeds, the journey time between these hubs will decrease. Additionally, the Prime Minister will flag off two more trains on January 18. These will connect Dibrugarh with Gomti and Guwahati with Rohtak. These services bring three major rail upgrades to the state in just two days.

Foundation Stone for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor

Conservation meets connectivity in the most ambitious project of the PM Modi Assam visit 2026. On January 18, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a 34.5-km elevated corridor. This road passes through the famous Kaziranga National Park. With a budget of Rs 6,957 crore, this is the largest infrastructure investment of its kind in Assam. The project aims to solve the conflict between highway traffic and wildlife.

Every year, animals like rhinos and elephants cross the highway during floods. Unfortunately, this often leads to fatal accidents. The new elevated corridor will allow animals to move safely beneath the road. Moreover, it will drastically reduce travel time for humans. The journey from Kaliabor to Bokakhat will take just 20 minutes instead of an hour. Therefore, the corridor protects both nature and commuters.

Cultural Grandeur and Public Engagement

The PM Modi Assam visit 2026 also celebrates the state’s rich culture. On January 17, the Prime Minister will watch a spectacular “Bagurumba” folk dance. Nearly 10,000 Bodo artistes will perform together at the Sarusajai Stadium. This display reflects the peaceful progress of the Bodo regions. Afterward, the Prime Minister will stay overnight at the State Guest House in Guwahati.

On the second day, he will travel to Nagaon district. There, he will address a major public rally at Mouchanda field. He plans to interact with the people and share his vision for a self-reliant Assam. These interactions ensure that the message of development reaches every citizen. Ultimately, these projects generate over 35 lakh person-days of employment for local youth.

Conclusion: A New Era for the Northeast

In conclusion, the PM Modi Assam visit 2026 marks a turning point for the state. By balancing modern rail with the Kaziranga corridor, the government builds a sustainable future. These projects improve the ease of living and attract more tourism. Assam is now becoming a true gateway to Southeast Asia. This progress is fueled by world-class infrastructure and a proud cultural heritage.
