Brahma said the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a major project. In addition, he will announce other initiatives linked to earlier agreements. However, officials have not yet shared the full list of projects.

Kokrajhar holds political and strategic importance in western Assam. It serves as the headquarters of the Bodoland Territorial Region. Therefore, the visit carries both developmental and political significance.

BJP Intensifies Campaign Ahead of 2026 Polls

The visit comes as Assam gears up for the 2026 Assembly elections. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has stepped up its campaign across the state. Party leaders have increased public outreach in recent weeks.

On February 28, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the Jan Ashirwad Yatra from Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district. The first phase runs from February 28 to March 9. Through this programme, the party aims to highlight development work and welfare schemes.

Moreover, BJP leaders have organised rallies, roadshows, and local meetings under the yatra. They are directly engaging with voters and promoting government achievements. As a result, the party hopes to strengthen its support base before the elections.

Focus on Third Consecutive Term

The BJP is aiming for a third straight term in Assam. To boost its campaign, the party has launched several promotional efforts. Recently, Sarma released three official election songs at the party headquarters in Guwahati.

These songs aim to energise party workers and connect with voters. At the same time, the BJP continues to target the opposition Indian National Congress. Party leaders have expressed confidence about retaining power in 2026.

Development Push in Kokrajhar

The Prime Minister’s visit is expected to underline the Centre’s focus on development in Assam. Over the past few years, both the Central and state governments have invested in infrastructure, connectivity, and welfare schemes.

Although officials have not disclosed full project details, leaders say the initiatives will benefit the region. Furthermore, they believe the announcements will strengthen economic growth in Kokrajhar and nearby areas.

Security agencies and local authorities have already started preparations for the high-profile visit. They are coordinating to ensure smooth arrangements for the programme.

As the election season approaches, political activity in Assam continues to rise. The March 13 event in Kokrajhar will likely combine development announcements with strong campaign messaging. Consequently, it could play a key role in shaping the political narrative ahead of the 2026 Assembly polls.
