The State Bank of India (SBI) has issued a clarification regarding the exchange of Rs 2,000 currency notes. According to a recent circular, individuals can exchange their Rs 2,000 notes up to a limit of Rs 20,000 without the need to fill out requisition forms or provide proof of identification.

However, if someone wishes to exchange an amount exceeding Rs 20,000, they will need to fill out a requisition form. The circular reaffirms that the Rs 2,000 notes will continue to be legal tender, but the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) encourages holders to exchange or deposit them before September 2023. Aside from these updates, the instructions provided in the SBI circular remain unchanged.

Starting from May 23, individuals can begin the process of depositing and exchanging their Rs 2,000 notes at any bank. The RBI aims to ensure operational convenience and avoid disruptions in regular bank activities by allowing the exchange of Rs 2,000 notes up to Rs 20,000 at a time.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) declared on Friday that the objective of introducing the Rs 2,000 currency note has been achieved, leading to the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes from circulation. The central bank clarified that these currency notes will remain valid as legal tender, but it encouraged individuals to exchange or deposit them before September 2023.
