Strong Winds Bring Down Hoarding

A powerful storm caused major disruption along National Highway 29 in Karbi Anglong district of Assam after strong winds toppled a large roadside hoarding onto the highway. The incident led to significant traffic congestion, leaving several vehicles stranded for some time.

According to local sources, the sudden storm brought intense winds and rain to the area, weakening the structure of the hoarding before it eventually collapsed onto the road. As a result, vehicles travelling along the busy highway were forced to slow down or stop completely, causing a temporary traffic jam.

Traffic Movement Disrupted

Soon after the hoarding fell, traffic movement along the highway came to a halt. Motorists and truck drivers travelling through the stretch had to wait as the obstruction blocked a significant portion of the road. Consequently, long queues of vehicles began to build up on both sides of the highway.

Meanwhile, authorities quickly responded to the situation after receiving information about the incident. Local police and highway officials reached the spot and began clearing the debris to restore normal traffic flow.

Authorities Act Swiftly

Officials from the district administration and police coordinated efforts to remove the fallen structure from the road. Using equipment and manpower, teams managed to shift the damaged hoarding and reopen the affected section of the highway.

Fortunately, no major injuries were reported in the incident. However, authorities noted that such weather-related incidents can pose serious risks to motorists, especially on highways where heavy vehicles frequently pass through.

Safety Concerns During Storms

The incident has once again highlighted the need for proper safety checks of roadside structures such as hoardings and billboards, particularly before the onset of severe weather. Weak or poorly installed structures can easily collapse during strong winds, creating hazards for road users.

Officials have also urged motorists to exercise caution while travelling during storms or heavy rainfall. Reduced visibility and sudden obstacles on the road can lead to accidents if drivers do not remain alert.

In conclusion, although the storm caused temporary traffic chaos on National Highway 29 in Karbi Anglong, swift action by authorities ensured that the obstruction was cleared and normal traffic resumed. Authorities continue to monitor weather conditions and advise travellers to stay cautious during extreme weather events.
