A joint cordon and search operation (CASO) was launched by the Indian Army and police in Poonch, Jammu, and Kashmir, on Wednesday morning following reports of suspicious movement by armed individuals in the town. The operation is being conducted in Khakha Nawan, Purani Poonch, and Jernally Mohalla of Poonch, where two schools have been closed.
The security forces are on high alert and fully activated following a terror attack in Bhatta Dhurian on April 20, where five soldiers were killed. Additionally, security forces are conducting Operation Trinetra in the neighboring border district of Rajouri’s Kandi forests following the killing of five paratroopers in an explosion triggered by terrorists during a CASO on Friday.
In a separate incident, one terrorist was killed and two others injured during an Indian Army operation in Shahpur, Jammu, and Kashmir, on April 9. The Pakistani intruder was killed when Army troops foiled a major infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.
On May 2, the police and security forces arrested a terrorist associate of the proscribed terror outfit LeT, identified as Tanveer Ahmad Wani, in Daramdora Shopian. The security forces recovered incriminating materials, arms, and ammunition, including one AK series rifle, one magazine, and 10 rounds, from his possession.
The Indian Army and police have been vigilant in maintaining peace and security in the region, given the ongoing threat of terrorism. The joint operations are part of their efforts to ensure that civilians in the area remain safe and secure.
