West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to participate in the TMC’s mass outreach program in Malda district on Thursday, ahead of the panchayat polls. The outreach program ‘Trinamool-e Nabajowar’ (new wave in Trinamool) was launched last month with the aim of reaching out to the people and empowering them to decide on party candidates for the upcoming polls through secret ballots.

According to a communication from the TMC media cell, Mamata Banerjee will be accompanied by TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee at the program in Malda, which is tentatively scheduled to begin at 4 PM on Thursday. Abhishek Banerjee, who is the nephew of Mamata Banerjee, is considered the party’s second most important leader after the CM and is expected to hold over 250 rallies across the state during the two-month outreach campaign.

During the selection process, people can provide feedback through a secret ballot or online. “During the referendum, the party members and influencers from each gram panchayat will participate in a secret ballot to recommend the right candidates for the following positions: Zilla Parishad members, Panchayat Samiti members, and Gram Panchayat members.

The outreach campaign aims to empower the people and ensure that they have a say in the selection of party candidates for the panchayat polls. The yatra began from Dinhata in Cooch Behar and will conclude at Kakdwip, South 24 Parganas district.
