Large-scale protests broke out in Mangalkhali as residents demanded justice for Khaled Ahmed, who died after a brutal assault. The demonstrations quickly escalated as people accused the police of failing to arrest the main आरोपी.
From early morning, thousands gathered near the Mangalkhali Big Mosque and launched a road blockade. Protesters burned tyres, raised slogans, and expressed grief and anger. As a result, traffic movement came to a complete halt, causing major disruption for commuters.
However, tensions rose further when authorities failed to calm the crowd despite repeated assurances. Consequently, a section of protesters turned violent and targeted the houses of the accused. They set fire to the homes of Jubed Ahmed, Saddam Hussain, and Sabbir Hussain, reducing them to ashes.
Soon after, fire department teams reached the spot with two fire engines. They managed to control the blaze, but the houses suffered complete destruction before firefighters contained the flames.
Meanwhile, the administration rushed additional security forces to the area. Kamal Debbarma, Additional Superintendent of Police (North District), and Jayanta Karmakar, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, personally intervened. Following their assurances, protesters eventually lifted the blockade.
The unrest stems from a violent attack that occurred on the day of Eid last week. During the incident, assailants attacked Khaled Ahmed and his brother Junaid Ahmed with sharp weapons. Initially, doctors treated both at a district hospital and later referred them to Silchar due to critical injuries.
