In a recent statement, BD Kalla, a prominent Congress leader and the Education Minister of Rajasthan, announced his intention to contest the upcoming assembly elections. Kalla, who has been elected as an MLA six times, expressed confidence in his prospects, asserting himself as the “winning candidate.” His decision comes amidst speculations that Lokesh Sharma, the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) for the Chief Minister, is eyeing the Bikaner West seat, currently held by Kalla, for his own electoral bid. Sharma’s increased visits and political activities in the constituency have fueled rumors about his potential candidacy.
During a meeting with the Congress in charge, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Kalla made it clear that he would indeed participate in the elections. Addressing reporters outside the PCC war room in Jaipur, he stated, “I will contest the election. I am the winning candidate… I am working in front of you.” Kalla further claimed that there was no competition for the ticket, not only within the Congress but also in the opposing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He suggested that the field was open for him to secure victory.
When questioned about other leaders who might not be contesting the elections this time, Kalla emphasized that the decision to run for office was a personal one. He stated that those who were unable to fulfill the responsibilities of the position should refrain from seeking a ticket. While Kalla confirmed his candidacy, Lokesh Sharma has yet to disclose his plans regarding the Bikaner West constituency, although his increased presence and political engagements have generated speculation.
Meanwhile, another prominent figure, Deependra Singh Shekhawat, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Srimadhopur in Sikar, has announced that he will not be running in the assembly elections. Shekhawat, who has served as the Assembly Speaker in the past and has been elected as an MLA five times, cited health concerns as the primary reason for his decision. Speaking at a public meeting in his constituency, he explained that considering his health condition, he had chosen not to participate in the forthcoming elections. Shekhawat assured the people that despite not seeking re-election, he would continue to serve and work for the betterment of the area.
As the assembly elections draw near in Rajasthan, the confirmation of BD Kalla’s candidacy has set the stage for an intriguing contest. While he declared himself as the frontrunner for the Bikaner West seat, speculations continue to surround the intentions of Lokesh Sharma, the CM’s OSD. Additionally, Deependra Singh Shekhawat’s decision not to contest the elections in Srimadhopur has created a void to be filled by another candidate. These developments have sparked interest and discussions within political circles as parties gear up for the electoral battle in Rajasthan.
