Renowned filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj announced on Tuesday that he has completed filming for his upcoming web series, “Charlie Chopra & The Mystery Of Solang Valley.” The show is an official adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novel, “The Sittaford Mystery,” and will mark Bhardwaj’s first foray into long-format storytelling.
Bhardwaj, known for directing critically acclaimed films such as “Maqbool,” “Omkara,” and “Kaminey,” took to his official Instagram account to share the news with his followers. He expressed his excitement about the project, saying that it had been a thrilling experience to bring Christie’s story to life on screen.
“The Sittaford Mystery” is one of Christie’s lesser-known works but has garnered a devoted following among her fans. The story is set in a remote village in Devon, England, where a group of guests gather for a weekend house party. During a séance, one of the guests receives a startling message from beyond the grave, predicting a murder that will take place in the nearby village of Sittaford.
As the guests begin to investigate the prediction, a murder does indeed take place in Sittaford, and suspicion falls on the visitors from the house party. The story is a classic Christie mystery, full of red herrings, misdirection, and unexpected twists and turns.
Bhardwaj’s adaptation, “Charlie Chopra & The Mystery Of Solang Valley,” transplants the story to the Himalayan region of India, with the title character taking on the role of the detective tasked with solving the murder. The show stars actor Vinay Pathak in the lead role, along with a talented ensemble cast.
Speaking about the project, Bhardwaj said that he was thrilled to have the opportunity to adapt one of Christie’s works for the screen. “Agatha Christie is one of my favourite writers, and ‘The Sittaford Mystery’ is a story that has always intrigued me,” he said. “I’m excited to bring this classic mystery to a new audience and to explore the stunning landscape of the Himalayas as a backdrop for the story.”
“Charlie Chopra & The Mystery Of Solang Valley” is produced by SonyLIV, a popular streaming platform in India. The show is part of a growing trend of web series adaptations of classic literature, as streaming platforms seek to attract a wider range of viewers with well-known and beloved stories.
The release date for the series has not yet been announced, but fans of both Christie and Bhardwaj are eagerly anticipating its arrival. With its intriguing premise, talented cast, and stunning setting, “Charlie Chopra & The Mystery Of Solang Valley” promises to be a must-watch for anyone who loves a good mystery.
