The Tripura power staff leaves have been officially cancelled by the state government in anticipation of heavy monsoon rains. This preemptive measure is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply and immediate response to weather-related disruptions. Authorities say the move is necessary to maintain stability in essential services as the state prepares for an intense rainy season.

In a circular issued on Thursday, the Tripura Power Department instructed all staff members to stay available on duty and not proceed on any kind of leave without prior approval. This includes both field workers and technical personnel, whose roles are considered crucial in maintaining round-the-clock electricity services.

Why Tripura Power Staff Leaves Are Being Cancelled

The state often faces weather-triggered power cuts during the monsoon. Landslides, lightning, fallen trees, and flooding frequently damage transmission lines. Therefore, by cancelling the Tripura power staff leaves, the government aims to ensure sufficient manpower is available to tackle emergency situations swiftly.

Speaking to the media, a senior energy department official said, “We have reviewed past experiences during the monsoon. Power disruption remains one of the key challenges. This year, we want to stay ahead by deploying enough staff to prevent long outages and restore service promptly.”

Prioritising Electricity Supply in Rural and Urban Zones

Both rural and urban areas will benefit from this decision. Villages, where maintenance is often delayed due to logistical challenges, will receive quicker assistance with extra manpower available on standby. In towns like Agartala, standby teams will be stationed in vulnerable areas with mobile equipment to reduce downtime.

The Tripura power staff leave cancellation also includes maintenance divisions who are now responsible for preventive checks. They have already started inspecting transformers, underground cabling, and overhead wires to identify possible weak spots before the rains hit their peak.

Government’s Broader Plan for Monsoon Preparedness

This step is part of the broader monsoon preparedness strategy adopted by the Tripura government. Departments like Water Resources, Disaster Management, and Public Works have also been placed on high alert. All field-level functionaries are being instructed to maintain coordination through a central monitoring system.

Electricity supply is a key concern during monsoons, especially with increased use of pumps, medical equipment, and other essential devices. A senior engineer at the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) mentioned that the corporation had been working overtime to build a buffer against emergency breakdowns.

Tripura Power Staff Leaves Policy Praised by Citizens

The decision to cancel staff leave has earned appreciation from residents and local businesses. Power reliability is closely tied to economic activity and safety, particularly during prolonged storms. Small business owners in Agartala welcomed the move, noting that frequent power cuts had previously affected productivity and storage.

Several citizens also shared their support on social media, calling the decision timely and preventive rather than reactive. “This shows that the government is thinking ahead,” one user posted. “We hope there will be fewer blackouts this year.”

Balancing Manpower and Employee Morale

While the step is critical, the government has also directed officials to ensure fair distribution of workload. The energy department has set up rotation systems so that employees get occasional rest without affecting field operations. Those whose leave has been cancelled will be compensated through earned leave later in the year.

“We respect the hard work of our power staff. Their commitment helps the system run even in the worst weather,” the official added.

With the Tripura power staff leaves cancelled, the state appears better prepared to deal with one of the season’s toughest challenges. Officials remain confident that their proactive approach will help reduce service interruptions significantly.

By keeping technicians, linemen, and engineers ready around the clock, Tripura is prioritising public convenience and safety. The coming weeks will test the resilience of the system, but with preparation in place, authorities hope to deliver uninterrupted electricity supply throughout the monsoon season.
