Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp attack on the Congress party during a massive rally in Darrang, Assam, on September 14, 2025. He accused the opposition of “echoing Pakistan’s lies” and undermining the morale of India’s armed forces during the recently concluded Operation Sindoor.

The rally drew thousands of supporters, with Modi’s remarks setting the tone for the political atmosphere in Assam ahead of upcoming elections. His speech highlighted issues of national security, unity, and the need for strong leadership.

Operation Sindoor: A Test of National Resolve

Operation Sindoor was a multi-agency mission aimed at neutralizing security threats and strengthening border safety in the Northeast. Modi hailed its success as a testament to the courage of India’s armed forces and local support from Assam’s residents.

He accused Congress leaders of spreading misinformation about the operation and questioned their commitment to national security. According to Modi, Congress’s narrative aligned with Pakistan’s propaganda, weakening India’s stance against terrorism.

Modi’s Appeal to National Unity

Modi emphasized that the Northeast, particularly Assam, plays a crucial role in maintaining India’s sovereignty. He said that Operation Sindoor not only secured the region but also demonstrated India’s resolve to protect its borders.

The Prime Minister urged citizens to remain united, support the armed forces, and reject narratives that create division. He said the success of Operation Sindoor symbolized India’s ability to defeat threats when the country stands together.

Criticism of Congress Leadership

In his speech, Modi accused the Congress party of prioritizing politics over patriotism. He alleged that Congress leaders were quick to question the armed forces while giving credibility to foreign narratives.

He argued that such behavior undermines India’s global reputation and emboldens adversaries. Modi urged voters to hold Congress accountable for what he described as “a betrayal of the nation’s trust.”

Assam’s Strategic Importance

Modi highlighted Assam’s cultural and strategic importance, calling it the gateway to India’s Northeast. He emphasized the government’s ongoing investment in infrastructure, border security, and economic growth in the region.

He linked the success of Operation Sindoor to the resilience of Assam’s people, praising their cooperation and bravery. Modi said that the state’s stability would pave the way for greater investments, tourism, and job creation.

Call for Development and Security

The Prime Minister assured that his government would continue focusing on both security and development. He announced plans for new road networks, improved border fencing, and technology-driven surveillance to ensure safety.

He also encouraged youth participation in entrepreneurship and innovation, saying that a secure Assam is the foundation for economic progress. Modi’s speech resonated with calls to reject divisive politics and focus on building a strong and self-reliant Northeast.

Cultural Heritage and National Pride

Modi invoked Assam’s rich cultural traditions, referencing the Maa Kamakhya Temple as a source of inspiration and unity. He said that spiritual and cultural heritage strengthens India’s resolve to safeguard its borders.

He urged citizens to celebrate Assam’s identity and role in India’s national story, connecting cultural pride to the success of security initiatives like Operation Sindoor.

Political Messaging Ahead of Elections

The rally in Darrang was seen as a major political statement ahead of state elections. Modi positioned the BJP as the only party capable of protecting national interests while accelerating growth in Assam.

He contrasted BJP’s policies with Congress’s approach, accusing the opposition of neglecting the Northeast in the past. Modi urged voters to choose a government committed to security, development, and cultural preservation.

Strengthening Northeast’s Future

Modi concluded his address with a strong call to action for the people of Assam. He encouraged them to support government efforts to maintain peace and contribute to nation-building.

He promised continued focus on youth empowerment, modern infrastructure, and tourism promotion. Modi emphasized that the success of Operation Sindoor demonstrated what India can achieve when its citizens, armed forces, and leadership work together.

Linking Security and Progress

The Prime Minister’s speech connected the themes of security, unity, and development. By targeting Congress for its stance on Operation Sindoor, Modi reinforced his party’s narrative of prioritizing national security over politics.

The Darrang rally highlighted Assam’s growing role in India’s strategic framework and the importance of regional cooperation in safeguarding national interests.
