Bridge and School Infrastructure Launched

At Moirangpurel, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Itham Moirangpurel Bridge built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). Authorities constructed the bridge over the Thoubal River at 2.10 km under Keirao Bitra Block. M/s NDS Construction completed the project at a sanctioned cost of Rs 645.84 lakh under PMGSY-I.

Furthermore, Singh inaugurated a Model Residential School developed under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK). The Ministry of Minority Affairs funded the project with an allocation of approximately Rs 25.62 crore.

He also opened the newly constructed Science and Arts Block of Moirangpurel Higher Secondary School. The state built the facility under Samagra Shiksha, Manipur, at an estimated cost of Rs 3.78 crore. The Education Engineering Wing executed the project.

The new infrastructure includes modern classrooms, laboratories, a library, separate toilets for boys and girls, and a rainwater harvesting system. As a result, students will benefit from improved academic facilities and a better learning environment.

Major Road Upgrade Flagged Off

Later, the Chief Minister flagged off the upgradation of the road stretch from NH-202 at Lamlai to Thoubal Dam, covering km 1 to 18.50 km. The project forms part of a key road network connecting NH-202 (Imphal–Ukhrul Road) and NH-102(A) (Shangshak–Tengnoupal Road).

The Public Works Department is executing the project. Officials expect to complete the work within one year. Once finished, the upgraded road will improve regional connectivity and support economic activities.

Addressing Local Concerns

While addressing a gathering at Moirangpurel Higher Secondary School, Singh acknowledged the shortage of teachers at the institution. He assured students and staff that the government would take necessary steps to fill vacant posts soon.

During the programme, residents also raised concerns about alleged unlawful activities along the Moirangpurel road. The matter reportedly involves certain security personnel. Taking serious note, the Chief Minister directed the Superintendent of Police to conduct a thorough investigation.

Moreover, Singh instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East to submit a detailed report regarding Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Laikhong village. These families have not yet received benefits for purchasing mattresses through Direct Benefit Transfer. The Deputy Commissioner assured that the administration would coordinate with the Home Department to resolve the issue promptly.

MLAs Highlight Development Momentum

Several local representatives attended the event and expressed support for the initiatives. Andro MLA Th. Shyamkumar praised the Chief Minister for guiding development efforts in the constituency. Lamlai MLA Khongbantabam Ibomcha stated that infrastructure growth has accelerated under the current government.

Meanwhile, Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing suggested upgrading the Napet Palli–Ashang Khullen road to National Highway status. According to him, such a move would further boost connectivity and economic prospects in the region.

Senior officials, including Commissioner to the Chief Minister N. Ashok Kumar and Chief Engineer PWD Chongtham Biswachandra Singh, also attended the programme. Students, teachers, and local residents participated in large numbers.

Overall, the projects mark a significant push for infrastructure and educational development in Imphal East. With improved roads and upgraded institutions, the government aims to enhance connectivity, create better opportunities, and support long-term regional growth in Manipur.
