Mizoram Governor Pushes Chite River Restoration Plan, Arunachal CM Seeks Border Infrastructure Boost

Vijay Kumar Singh reviewed Phase 2 of the Chite River restoration plan and called for stronger coordination and practical solutions in Mizoram. At the same time, Pema Khandu urged the Centre to enhance strategic infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh during talks with Rajnath Singh. Both developments highlight the Northeast’s focus on sustainability and connectivity. Moreover, they reflect growing efforts to balance ecological protection with infrastructure growth.

Mizoram Strengthens River Restoration Efforts

At Lok Bhavan, Vijay Kumar Singh interacted with the Save Chite Lui Coordination Committee and PWD officials. As patron, he reviewed progress under Phase 2 of the action plan.

Importantly, he stressed the need for sustained and collective action. In addition, he proposed installing check gates and small dams to remove waste effectively from the river.


Focus on Practical and Collaborative Measures

Furthermore, the Governor recommended extensive plantation drives along riverbanks. He also urged better coordination among communities, NGOs, and government agencies.

To improve execution, he advised simplifying the Detailed Project Report (DPR). As a result, officials can implement the plan more efficiently. Meanwhile, departments presented updates through a detailed presentation, highlighting joint efforts.


Arunachal Pradesh Pushes Strategic Connectivity

Meanwhile, Pema Khandu met Rajnath Singh in New Delhi. During the meeting, he emphasized the importance of infrastructure in border districts.

Notably, he highlighted how improved connectivity strengthens both national security and regional development. Therefore, he requested continued central support.


Priority Corridor Project Highlighted

Specifically, Khandu identified the Akajan–Likabali–Bame corridor as a priority project. This corridor will connect Assam’s plains with remote districts like Upper Subansiri and Shi-Yomi.

Additionally, the project includes a major bridge over the Taro Tamak River. Currently, the Border Roads Organisation is executing most sections.


Centre Assures Continued Support

In response, Rajnath Singh assured that the Centre will prioritise infrastructure proposals from Arunachal Pradesh. He reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening border regions.

Subsequently, Khandu expressed gratitude for the continued support. He also noted the importance of transforming forward areas through sustained investment.
