Proposal for AIIMS-Like Institute in Chümoukedima

During the discussions, Paiwang Konyak requested central assistance for setting up an AIIMS-like institute in Chümoukedima district. According to the state government, such an institution would strengthen advanced medical care facilities in Nagaland and reduce dependence on other states for specialized treatment.

Additionally, the minister proposed launching postgraduate medical courses at NIMSR from 2028. The state believes the move will help address the shortage of specialist doctors in Nagaland.

Officials also discussed the need for expanding healthcare infrastructure to meet growing medical demands across the region.

State Seeks Cancer and Mental Health Facilities

The Nagaland government further requested support for establishing a State Cancer Institute to improve cancer treatment facilities within the state. At present, many patients travel outside Nagaland for advanced healthcare services.

Furthermore, Paiwang Konyak proposed upgrading the State Mental Health Institute into a Centre of Excellence. Authorities believe the upgrade would improve mental healthcare services and provide better treatment facilities for patients.

The discussions also included a proposal to establish Accident and Trauma Centres in the remaining 12 districts of Nagaland.

Demand for Continued PM-ABHIM Support

Nagaland also urged the Centre to continue support under the PM-ABHIM scheme to strengthen public healthcare systems. Officials stated that the scheme has helped improve medical infrastructure and emergency response services in several parts of the state.

Moreover, healthcare expansion projects could create better access to treatment, medical education, and emergency care in remote areas of Nagaland.
