Itanagar, June 26: Itanagar Police have recovered around 14 stolen two-wheelers and apprehended four children in conflict with law during a major operation against vehicle theft in the Capital Region. The recovery followed a 20-day investigation into rising two-wheeler theft cases.

Police Crack Down on Vehicle Theft

Itanagar Police launched a sustained operation to curb two-wheeler thefts in the Capital Region. As a result, officers recovered around 14 stolen motorcycles and scooters.

The operation lasted nearly 20 days. It focused on theft cases reported in Itanagar and nearby areas.

Four Children Apprehended

Police registered Case No. 171/2026 under Section 305(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on June 25.

During the investigation, officers apprehended four children in conflict with law, aged between 10 and 14 years, while following the legal procedures applicable to juveniles.

Stolen Vehicles Recovered

Based on information gathered during the investigation, police recovered the stolen vehicles from several locations across the Itanagar Capital Region and Papum Pare district.

The recovered vehicles include the scooter linked to the registered theft case.

Investigation Continues

The operation took place under the supervision of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Itanagar, and the Officer-in-Charge of Itanagar Police Station.

Investigators used source development, field verification, and continuous follow-up to trace the stolen vehicles and identify those involved.

Ownership Verification Underway

Police found that the registration numbers, engine numbers, and chassis numbers of several recovered vehicles appeared to have been tampered with.

Therefore, officials are verifying the original ownership records. After completing the legal process, police will return the vehicles to their rightful owners.
