Mizoram has emerged as the third-best performing state in India in implementing the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination programme, Health Minister Lalrinpuii announced on July 1. Speaking at the launch of the National Immunisation Day (NID) Pulse Polio programme in Aizawl, she said the state aims to secure the top national ranking through sustained efforts. The minister also highlighted Lunglei district’s achievement of exceeding its HPV vaccination target and stressed the importance of continuing routine immunisation to maintain Mizoram’s polio-free status.

Mizoram Aims to Become India’s Top HPV Vaccination Performer

Mizoram Health Minister Lalrinpuii said the state has secured the third position in India for implementing the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination programme.

She expressed confidence that Mizoram can achieve the top national ranking if health officials and frontline workers continue their dedicated efforts.

The minister made the announcement while launching the National Immunisation Day (NID) Pulse Polio programme in Aizawl on July 1.

Strong Progress in HPV Vaccination

Lalrinpuii said the HPV vaccination programme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 28, has recorded encouraging progress across Mizoram.

She noted that the state’s population of around 16 lakh allows the health department to deliver quality healthcare services more effectively while meeting public expectations.

The minister urged healthcare workers to strengthen vaccination efforts and ensure wider coverage across all districts.

Lunglei District Exceeds Vaccination Target

Officials highlighted the performance of Lunglei district during the nationwide HPV vaccination campaign.

The district achieved 107% coverage, vaccinating 1,326 adolescent girls against a target of 1,243 during the intensive 90-day campaign held from February 28 to May 31.

The achievement reflects strong community participation and effective implementation by local health authorities.

Focus on Routine Immunisation

The minister also stressed the importance of routine immunisation programmes.

She noted that India has remained officially polio-free since 2014 and said Mizoram must continue strengthening vaccination drives to maintain that status.

Lalrinpuii welcomed the positive public response to the Pulse Polio campaign. She said awareness programmes have encouraged more parents to bring their children for immunisation.
