The opening ceremony also celebrated the achievements of two Meghalaya karate athletes who recently earned medals at the South Asian Karate Championship in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Daniel Dabiangbha Warjri won the gold medal in the Boys’ Junior -68kg Kumite category, while Gideon Tympuin secured a bronze medal in the Men’s Under-21 Individual Kata event.
Additionally, John F. Kharshiing and Finely L. Pariat presented awards to both athletes. Pariat also announced cash incentives on behalf of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association to recognise their international success.
