Four-Day Search Ends in Meghalaya

The Meghalaya SDRF recovered the body of a missing person from the Wahniangleng River near Phra Mer in Mylliem on July 26.

The rescue team began the search on July 22 after authorities received information about a missing resident from Phra Mer.

SDRF personnel joined hands with Mawngap Police and local residents from Laitkroh and Phra Mer. Together, they searched the river and nearby gorges.

Rescue Teams Used Inflatable Boat

The search operation covered several stretches of the Wahniangleng River.

Teams used a rubber inflatable boat to search areas extending from Mawphlang Dam. Rescuers checked both upstream and downstream sections of the river.

Despite extensive searches on July 23 and 24, teams could not locate the missing person.

Strong Currents Halt Recovery Attempt

Local residents spotted the body on July 25 in a confined section of the river.

SDRF personnel quickly reached the location and started a recovery attempt. However, strong currents and hazardous water conditions made the operation unsafe.

The rescue team therefore suspended the recovery effort for the day. Officials planned to resume the operation once conditions became safer.

Body Recovered on July 26

SDRF personnel resumed the search operation on the morning of July 26.

At around 7:10 am, the team successfully recovered the body from the river. The recovery brought the four-day search operation to an end.

The SDRF then handed the body over to Mawngap Police for legal formalities.

The Directorate of Civil Defence and Home Guards, Meghalaya, confirmed the recovery through an official press release.

What happened in Meghalaya?

A resident of Phra Mer went missing on July 22. Authorities launched a search operation in the Wahniangleng River and nearby areas.

When did the SDRF recover the body?

The SDRF recovered the body on July 26 at around 7:10 am.

Why did rescuers suspend the operation?

Rescuers temporarily stopped the recovery attempt on July 25 because strong river currents created dangerous conditions.

Mawngap Police and local residents from Laitkroh and Phra Mer assisted the SDRF during the search.

Where was the body found?

Local residents spotted the body in a confined section of the Wahniangleng River near Phra Mer in Mylliem.
