Overloaded Trucks Raise Safety Concerns

The Bailey bridge at Krowti plays a vital role in connecting remote communities in Anjaw district. However, repeated movement of overloaded trucks has reportedly weakened the structure.

The bridge has a clearly marked load-bearing limit. Despite this, some overloaded vehicles continued to cross the bridge, increasing concerns about its structural safety.

As a result, authorities have temporarily restricted movement across the bridge. The restriction will remain in place until officials determine that the structure is safe.

Border Villages Face Connectivity Concerns

The bridge serves as a crucial link for people living in the strategically important border region. In particular, it helps connect communities with Kaho village near the India-China border.

Therefore, any prolonged disruption could create difficulties for residents, commuters and the movement of essential supplies.

Local authorities have urged people to cooperate during the restriction. Commuters should also follow official traffic advisories and avoid the damaged bridge until officials give clearance.

Minister Appeals to Drivers

Local MLA and Women & Child Development Minister Dasanglu Pul appealed to vehicle owners, drivers and commuters to respect the prescribed load limits.

She also urged residents to cooperate with the administration while officials assess the bridge and begin restoration work.

Meanwhile, the concerned authorities have received instructions to inspect the structure and start necessary repair work as soon as possible.
