Yaba tablets worth around Rs 10 crore were seized by Assam Police during an early-morning operation in Sribhumi district on Wednesday. Nearly 66,000 suspected tablets were recovered from a concealed compartment inside a truck near the Sribhumi toll gate.
Police intercepted the vehicle after receiving specific information about the movement of a suspected narcotics consignment. Two people, identified as the truck driver and co-driver, were arrested in connection with the seizure.
Yaba tablets found inside concealed truck compartment
According to officials, the operation took place near the Sribhumi toll gate in the early hours of September 2. Police stopped a truck bearing registration number AS 01 VC 3157 and conducted a detailed search.
During the inspection, officers discovered a secret compartment inside the vehicle. The concealed space reportedly contained nearly 66,000 suspected Yaba tablets, which police estimated to be worth around Rs 10 crore.
The recovery marks another major narcotics seizure in southern Assam. Moreover, the use of a hidden compartment indicates that investigators are examining how the consignment was transported and concealed.
Two arrested in Yaba tablets case
Police arrested two people following the recovery. They were identified as Suman Uddin, the truck driver, and Taj Uddin, the co-driver.
The two men have been taken into custody and are being questioned as part of the investigation. Police are seeking information about the source of the suspected narcotics and their intended destination.
However, their arrest does not by itself establish their involvement in a wider trafficking network. Investigators are expected to establish the facts through questioning and other evidence collected during the probe.
Police probe possible trafficking links

Yaba tablets seizures continue in southern Assam
The latest Yaba tablets recovery comes amid continued anti-narcotics operations across Assam. Sribhumi and neighbouring districts have witnessed several drug seizures this year, reflecting sustained police action against suspected trafficking routes.
In July, Sribhumi Police seized 30,000 Yaba tablets estimated to be worth about Rs 3 crore and arrested three people, according to reports. In June, another operation in the district resulted in the seizure of a Yaba consignment valued at around Rs 2.4 crore.
The repeated recoveries have kept attention on the movement of synthetic drugs through southern Assam. Meanwhile, agencies have continued to use intelligence-led operations and vehicle checks to intercept suspected consignments.
Investigation continues after Yaba tablets seizure
Following Wednesday’s operation, Sribhumi Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The investigation will focus on establishing the origin, destination and intended recipients of the seized Yaba tablets.
Police are also examining whether other people were involved in arranging or transporting the consignment. Further arrests, if any, will depend on evidence emerging during the investigation.
