Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a 30-year-old man and seized 25.95 grams of suspected heroin at Agartala Railway Station in Tripura. Police identified the accused as Gautam Pal, a resident of Nagarpara in East Lumding, Assam.

GRP Conducts Operation at Agartala Railway Station

According to Agartala GRP Officer-in-Charge Raju Bhowmik, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Biswajit Das launched the operation around 5 pm.

During the operation, officers noticed Gautam Pal and intercepted him on Platform No. 1. The team then searched him as part of the investigation.

Police allegedly found 25.95 grams of suspected heroin inside three soap cases during the search.

Additionally, officers seized a smartphone, Aadhaar card and black shoulder bag from Pal. Police took all the items into custody for further investigation.

Police Estimate Heroin Value at ₹2 Lakh

Police estimated the street value of the seized substance at approximately ₹2 lakh.

Following the recovery, officers arrested Pal and began further legal proceedings. The GRP also registered a case under Sections 21(b) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Meanwhile, investigators have started examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged possession of the suspected heroin.

Investigation Into Possible Drug Network

The Agartala GRP is now investigating where the suspected heroin came from and where it was allegedly headed.

Furthermore, police are examining whether Pal allegedly acted alone or had connections with other people involved in drug trafficking.

Investigators may question the accused and examine the seized smartphone and other items for additional information.
