Kohima, Nagaland: Nagaland Power Minister KG Kenye has urged electrical and electronics manufacturers to expand their businesses in Northeast India and explore cross-border trade opportunities with neighbouring countries. Speaking on November 3, 2026, Kenye described the Northeast as a potential gateway to emerging markets and encouraged companies to consider Nagaland as a base for business expansion.
Addressing an ELECRAMA 2027 preview programme organised by the Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers’ Association (IEEMA) in Kohima, Kenye highlighted the region’s growing economic potential.

KG Kenye Highlights Business Opportunities in Northeast India
Kenye pointed out that several areas across India’s international borders still lack adequate electricity infrastructure. However, growing consumer demand in these regions could create significant opportunities for electrical and electronics businesses.
He urged manufacturers to use Nagaland as a launching point for establishing businesses and expanding their operations into neighbouring regions.
Furthermore, he said improved road connectivity and the development of international highways would strengthen trade links and make business operations easier.
The minister also encouraged industry leaders to invest in Nagaland and generate employment opportunities for local people.
Nagaland Government Focuses on Private Sector Employment
Highlighting the state’s employment challenges, Kenye said the government had reached a saturation point in providing public-sector jobs to educated young people.
Nagaland has a considerable number of educated youths seeking employment. Meanwhile, the state spends a substantial share of its financial resources on government salaries and wages.
As a result, the government has limited funds available for other development activities.
Kenye stressed that private investment and industrial development could help address unemployment while creating new economic opportunities.
He also acknowledged the difficulties businesses might face when establishing industries in Nagaland. However, he assured manufacturers that the state government was working to create a peaceful and investment-friendly environment.
He further promised all possible support to companies interested in investing in the state.
KD Vizo Calls for Manufacturing and Assembly Units
Nagaland Power Department Principal Secretary KD Vizo also encouraged electrical and electronics manufacturers to establish production, assembly and repair facilities in Nagaland and other northeastern states.
Vizo said Northeast India had lagged behind in manufacturing despite its economic potential.
He urged companies to explore different investment models. For instance, businesses could begin with semi-knocked-down assembly facilities if establishing full-scale manufacturing plants was not immediately possible.
According to Vizo, manufacturing could generate employment, strengthen the regional economy and provide better career opportunities for young people.
